Hull of first multi-role corvette completed
RMC has completed the hull of the first Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette on schedule. Work continues with the outfitting stage and the vessel will be launched during the spring. For the launch, a heavy transfer ramp was built in the shipyard area, completed in December. RMC has further invested in a submersible barge currently undergoing modifications for the launch.
The hull of the first multi-role corvette was completed on schedule in December. The hull has now been painted and all covers removed.
RMC together with its subsidiary RMC Defence Oy is building four Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvettes for the Finnish Navy as part of the Squadron 2020 project. These high-performance vessels are designed for the demanding and varying conditions of the Baltic Sea, including the ice winter. The direct impact of the project is more than 3,600 person years of employment in Finland.
Project proceeds on schedule
The production of the first multi-role corvette started in October 2023 with keel laying taking place in April 2024. For the second vessel, production started in October 2024, several weeks ahead of schedule.
The multipurpose construction hall is an enclosed special facility built for this project, completed in early 2023.

The vessel is transferred along the heavy transfer ramp onto the submersible launch barge. The barge is taken into deeper water and submerged under the vessel.
The launch barge currently undergoing modifications for the launch is the most recent investment made by RMC.
